This album hit the streets a little early. The font was not available for the
printers so it is known as IV, 4 Symbols, and Zoso. The actual name of this LP
is the four symbols that appear as my background.
This album starts off rockin' hard with Black Dog a tune that features
some good drum work by Bonzo and great guitar riffs by Jimmy Page. It is
followed by another tune that would soon become known to all Zep fans Rock And
Roll and it just keeps getting better as this album goes along.
For another first, Jimmy Page plays a mandolin (brought to you by John Paul
Jones) for the first time. It is said that he played it until things seemed to
sound right. And the result The Battle Of Evermore.
Side one concludes with what would be another rock anthem by Zeppelin, the ever
popular Stairway To Heaven. Led Zeppelin did not want to cut anything
out of this great tune so it was never released a a single, but that had no
effect of its popularity. Year after year it is still ranked as the best song
of all time. And I have to agree with the crowd on this one.
Side two gives us another taste of Tolkien with Misty Mountain Hop a
nice acoustic song to get us in the mood to really get some Led out.
Next is a good rock tune followed by a mellow acoustic song which is followed
by a blues style song to conclude this great album. I once again give Zep a
strong A and rate this as their best album ever and probably in my top
five.(depending on my mood it goes from three to four). A very fine piece of
work and every song on this one is deserving to hear when you need a little Led
for your head.
